We want the best for your teeth and overall health. That is why we have put some information together here to help you the next time you visit our practice. It can also help you understand more about prevention and other topics in dentistry.
Preventive care: At least every 6 months
The American Dental Association recommends regular visits to the dentist at a minimum 6 month intervals. This interval allows the trained eyes of the hygienist and dentist to properly evaluate your mouth and suggest current methods to keep your teeth in tip top shape. Our examination includes an oral cancer screening to allow for early detection of suspicious oral lesions. Dental caries is still one the most prevalent diseases worldwide.
Start 'em early
Proper oral hygiene habits are learned early. As soon as your toddler can manage a toothbrush (24-30 months), supervised brushing can create beneficial habits that last a lifetime. Remember, children under 6 should be supervised at all times as swallowing toothpaste can be harmful.
Dr. Ludwig recommends a first dental visit some time in the third year. Establishing regular visits at a young age will allow your child to learn proper hygiene techniques that will contribute to keeping their teeth for a lifetime. Early exposure to hygiene visits show kids that going to the dentist can be a fun experience. Remember.....dental disease is preventable but it's not easy. It takes hard work and perfecting home care techniques that are easily demonstrated and mastered with time.
